Miaflor

Singer • Actress

A flight attendant she will never be although she holds a tourism diploma from Compu College of Business in British Columbia, Canada. But Miaflor is not complaining. The petite charmer, all of 3 feet 11 inches is a bundle of talent, and yes, of joy.

Sometime in the summer 1996, Manila Genesis lady boss Angeli Valenciano got a dose of that Miaflor magic when she saw her perform in Canada. The expert talent manager was convinced that she has what it takes to make it in the Philippine entertainment scene.

Miaflor is not your run of the mill novelty act. For three years, she took up music lessons from a music studio in New Westminister, British Columbia. She plays the piano, can sing, act, dance, and do a mean Janet Jackson act. Her fast comic wit has never failed to elicit laughs. Some of us can only dream of meeting Hollywood heartthrob Johnny Depp; Miaflor has gone ahead two steps, she met him and guested in his 80’s juvenile hit series “21 Jump Street.” Miaflor is also an excellent host, having trained in Filipino community functions and in the family-owned Philippine Village Restaurant in Canada. She proved this as she literally brought the house down in Carlo Orosa’s “Langit Na” mall tour as she performed and hosted with Icko Gonzalez.

Determined to share her talents back home, Miaflor is not bothered by the fact that people like her usually end up in comedies. A lot of challenges, she expects. But she also hopes to change this convoluted way of Filipino thinking. From someone
that people laugh at and push around Miaflor would want others to look at her, and others like her, with dignity and respect.

Yes, big things indeed come in small packages. Miaflor may only be 3 feet 11 inches but she is a bursting pack of determination, hardwork and awesome talent. She has guested in “Home along Da Riles”, “Sharon”, “Today with Kris”, “Extra Extra”, “Mel
and Jay,” and “GMA Love Stories.”

Miaflor was formally launched at the Centerstage of Eat Bulaga where she received a reception and congratulatory messages from Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, and Jimmy Santos. The petite bundle of talent thinks her stints as Gary Valenciano’s front act in his 1997 Music Museum Concert series entitled, “Gary Valenciano V: By Request” is an additional leaf to her laurel. Budding still, expect Miaflor to bloom some more.
