Singer | Balladeer

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”  RJ de la Fuente knows the calming power of Ecclesiastes 3:1. He knew it when he auditioned before judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez and successfully advanced through several rounds in “American Idol” Season 10 in 2011. It was the same year he was named Celebrity Chronicle's Most Promising Male Performer in 2011.  He knew it when the balladeer and R&B singer joined the team of Lea Salonga in Season 1 of “The Voice of the Philippines” in 2013.

In fact, he knew it much earlier, when he started performing at the age of 21. He participated in events in California and also appeared as a guest in the shows of Sharon Cuneta, Martin Nievera, and Brian McKnight.  Instead of a straight through career trajectory, however, he temporarily put his dreams on hold. He earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of California, Riverside, but knew there was a time to every purpose. When he eventually worked as a banker by day, he continued to pursue his passion for music at night.

In January of 2013, he left California for good to go into music full time here in the Philippines. After all, it seemed inevitable.  His musical lineage practically begged it. Grandmother Lerrie Pangilinan was an eight-time Tawag ng Tanghalan champion during the 1950s. RJ also counts Gary Valenciano as an uncle, Sharon Cuneta as aunt, and every one of  note in this extended family. Yet, the fact that he belongs to a clan of musical overachievers is something he views as “a privilege and responsibility.” It’s this attitude that has worked its magic on the opportunities RJ continues to enjoy.

To date, he has also shared the stage with Marie Digby, Lea Salonga, Piolo Pascual, Kuh Ledesma, AJ Rafael, Cathy Nguyen,  Jeremy "Passion" Manongdo, Gabe Bondoc, Andrew Carcia, Quest Crew, Mitoy Yonting and the Basco Brothers. In addition, he has performed in venues like the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Historia, Music Museum, Music Hall, Resorts World Manila, City of Dreams, and the Kia Theater in the Philippines, to name a few.  He has also taken acting workshops with Star Magic, and is now being co-managed by Manila Genesis Entertainment Management, Inc. and VIVA Artists Agency. Recently he performed in the #Setlist and He Said, She Said series of shows.  He was a six time featured artist in Gary V Presents at Resorts World Manila then Zamboanga in 2015, and again at the Kia Theater in 2016.

He sang the theme song, “Never Ever Say Goodbye” by Nonoy Zuniga for TV's “Bakit Manipis ang Ulap” starring Claudine Barretto, Cesar Montano, Diether Ocampo and Meg Imperial, directed by Joel Lamangan.

In 2017 the pop-balladeer released his first single entitled “Maybe It’s Time” earning himself a nomination in 2018 for Awit Awards Best New Male Recording Artist, he was also chosen to interpret PhilPop 2018 finalist “Ikaw Ang Aking Pag-ibig”. RJ also performed in Pinoy Playlist 2018, a six-day OPM music festival carefully curated by entertainment industry legends Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Noel Ferrer, and Moy Ortiz. He recently toured nationwide for the Awit at Laro mall tours and has formed a project band with good friends Guji Lorenzana & Janjay Coquilla called TFTI. At present, RJ continues to make song covers and posts them on his Youtube channel, he is also in the process of working on his first EP.
